NoIR Insight (Milford, MI) announces the introduction of AEGIS, a laser-protective welding helmet designed for professionals working with fiber laser welding systems and traditional MIG/TIG processes. Protected by NoIR LaserShield technology, AEGIS brings together a laser safety filter, a hybrid auto-darkening filter (ADF), and a fiber-reinforced shell in one integrated helmet.
The hybrid ADF is designed for visibility and comfort, with a fixed shade 3–4 grind/laser setting and selectable auto-darkening shade ranges of 5–9 and 9–13. These settings provide flexibility for different operations and light conditions. The helmet also features multiple adjustment points for wearer comfort and a lightweight, fiber-reinforced shell.
The dedicated laser safety filter is specified for 1060–1100 nm with optical density (OD) 7+ with CE EN 12254 ratings of D AB4 + IR AB7 (pending) and 50% visible light transmission (VLT). The combination provides full laser protection while preserving visibility for the operator. Additional certification claims should be confirmed against final documentation before publication.
AEGIS is intended to be used as part of a comprehensive laser safety program, not as a substitute for required eyewear or controlled-area procedures. NoIR recommends wearing appropriately rated LaserShield® eyewear beneath the helmet, ensuring protection even when the hood is lifted. All personnel in a laser-controlled area must use eye protection selected for the actual wavelength, power, exposure conditions, and applicable safety assessment.
