The Legionnaire, a collaboration between MetalForming, Inc. (Peachtree City, GA) and Krasser (Dobl, Austria), provides compact slitting and cutting for sheet metal. The machine features automated knife change-out and repositioning capabilities in under 30 seconds with a positioning accuracy of 0.8 mm (1/32 inches). Automatic knife positioning promotes knife longevity and eliminates burrs. The Legionnaire comes standard with guillotine shears for diagonal cutting and five sets of slitting knives for length cutting, but the machine can be configured with up to eight sets of slitting knives.Â
Â
For 400 N/mm2 steel, 550 N/mm2 steel, and aluminum/copper, the Legionnaire has a working thickness of 0.4-1.00 mm (29-20 ga), 0.4-0.8 mm (22-29 ga), and 0.5-1.25 mm (0.048-0.19 inches) respectively.
Â
The Legionnaire has a maximum coil width of 1,250 mm (49 inches) and a minimum strip width of 60 mm (2.375 inches). It features a maximum cutting speed of 30 m/min (100 ft/min) and a maximum coil weight of 2,000 kg (4,400 pounds). A motorized decoiler can be used to remove maximum weight and diameter restrictions. The Legionnaire automatically adjusts the cut clearance with an accuracy of 0.3 mm (1/100 inches).Â
Â
Differing cutting runs can be scheduled in unbroken sequences. This does not require repeated feeding of material by the operator and minimizes material scrap. All machine settings, such as die clearance and cutting depth, are stored for each material.
