The new ByBend Smart from Bystronic (Hoffman Estates, IL) is designed to offer a performance package with functions that enable users to produce parts at high quality and low cost.
The press brake’s “Daylight and Stroke Expansion” extends the daylight and stroke from 18.9 to 22.9 inch. The additional 3.94 inches boosts the ByBend Smart’s flexibility by as much as 30 percent because this means that it can use taller tools, enabling users to produce parts with taller bending sides. This is particularly useful when bending boxes and drawers.
The “Efficiency Booster” option increases bending speed and ram retract speed by up to 20 percent over conventional ram retract speeds. With the “Energy Saver” option, the main drive is only active when the machine is in operation, reducing energy consumption by 40 percent.
Other options include:
- “Fast Bend M” option: a laser safety system enables the system to move close to the part at rapid movement speed and then slow down significantly as it nears the part;
- “Electric Lifting Aid” option: this increases material handling flexibility and operator ergonomics for large parts up to 220 lbs. per unit;
- “ByVision Bending” control: operators can launch all the bending processes with just a few swipes of the finger on a 22-inch touch screen; and
- The “Active Hydraulic Crowning” feature, in which the system recognizes the part’s length and position and other material properties, then the system sets up the ideal distribution of bending force across the entire bending length without detailed operator input.
