MSG Maschinenbau (Schmallenberg, Germany) offers the GMS-S, one of a number of products designed to scan and provide information on every pipe and tube that is coming down the production line. The known measurement deviation of conventional test methods, caused by existing constraining and static friction forces in workpiece fixtures, centrifugal forces in rotating test systems or the scatter of the subjective operator assessment, are eliminated by the GMS-S. The measuring result is comparable to a survey with zero gravity.
Because the results are immediately digitized, you can compare these results upstream and downstream in the process to evaluate processes or optimize them, the latter aided by machine learning algorithms. Adverse environmental conditions are not a factor, nor is the act of measuring or transporting the tube or pipe during the measurement process. Any vibration is taken away by an intelligent damping system.
The system works on materials such as steel, brass, aluminum, titanium, and has a measurement accuracy of up to 100µm. In addition to straightness and twist, the system also measures general shape deviation, curvature, and weight.
