Amada’s (Buena Park, CA) BREVIS 1212 AJ fiber laser provides versatile laser capabilities from a compact design. It features high-speed laser cutting, easy material loading, and a flexible Z-axis to process parts up to 7.8 inches (200 mm). Amada has designed the BREVIS for high-mix, low-volume production.
The 3 kW single-diode module fiber laser engine ensures a low Beam Parameter Product (BPP), the product of a beam’s divergence angle and the radius at the beam waist used to inversely indicate the quality of a laser beam. Laser mode and BPP are automatically optimized based on the thickness of the material being cut, so BREVIS can process a wide range of thin-to-thick materials without requiring a lens change. In addition, the product has the ability to cut copper, brass, titanium, and exotic types of metals for both flat and 3D shapes.
The BREVIS additionally includes OVS-D technology, a system that measures the pitch of two reference holes and automatically compensates for any origin deviation when transferring a sheet of parts from the punch machine. The pitch and circularity are also measured, and the system sets off an alarm when any of these values fall outside the specified limits. The BREVIS also features a fiber laser oscillator, which contributes to the reduction of power costs.
BREVIS is equipped with Amada’s latest generation of intelligent controls, the AMNC 3i. It has a maximum sheet size of 4 x 4 feet, but a 4 x 8 sheet may be loaded to process two 4 x 4 workpieces sequentially. A rotary index is optionally available, allowing BREVIS to process tube and pipe.
