Bystronic (Hoffman Estates, IL) has updated its ByStar Fiber to provide 15 kW fiber laser capabilities on its 3015 and 4020 models. On average, Bystronic reports a cutting speed increase of up to 50 percent (when cutting with nitrogen) compared to a 10 kW laser source. The new 15 kW output allows the system to cut steel, aluminum, and stainless steel with a thickness from 20 gauge up to 1.5 inches as well as brass and copper up to 0.75 inches.
Bystronic’s SSC cutting head is suited for both thin and thick sheets and profiles regardless of material type. The variable telescoping cutting head automatically adjusts the focal length and spot size, and the focal position is set automatically for each material.
Bystronic’s BeamShaper function ensures smooth cutting edges and high operational reliability across the entire range of carbon steel materials with fluctuating material characteristics to thicknesses up to 1.125 inches. This function can be selected as an option when purchasing a new 15 kW ByStar fiber or added later as an upgrade. With the BeamShaper, the beam profile is adapted for cutting thicker materials, providing for smooth cutting edges and increased speeds in carbon steels from 0.75 inches to 1.125 inches.
