The OptiFlex is Kern’s (Wadena, MN) flagship large format laser processing system. The system debuts Kern’s HyperDual motion package, which features a rack and pinion design, servo motors at each side of the laser table, and an x axis with twin linear rails and a thicker steel reinforced belt.
The system features metal cavity CO2 laser sources with a wide operating power range and a closed-loop chilling unit to cool the laser source. The 2.5” S-focus lens assembly includes an assist air, which pushes air out of the nozzle, protecting the lens from smoke and debris.
The OptiFlex includes a blower package that removes fumes and small debris created during laser processing. An integrated downdraft table holds material secure to the table as it is being processed, and a vacuum arm elevates the gantry hoses above the working table.
A honeycomb aluminum table structure is inserted into the bed, maintaining a flat work surface. The honeycomb cells allow for a downdraft table and also the ducting of smoke and debris into the bottom chamber. Sheet metal panels are installed around the system, completely encasing the bottom structure. The side panels include a safety interlock which disables the laser if the panels are removed.
The system features a max cutting speed of 20 inches per second and a laser wattage of 100-650 watts depending on the model. The system uses KCAM laser software and CorelDraw. Kern offers optional additions for metal cutting auto-focusing, the K-Vision nozzle mounted camera, a pipe rotary attachment, and a multi-zone table.
