Voortman’s (Monee, IL) V325 provides drilling, cutting, and milling for thick plates. The V325 can process steel plate up to 100 mm (4 inches) and can drill holes up to 70 mm (2.75 inches) in diameter. The V325 utilizes a SK50/CAT50 drilling head and 610 Nm torque spindle. It features dual 10-station tool changers.
When parts are cut, the V325 drops finished parts from the skeleton using an automatic product discharge table with a motor-driven conveyor belt. During plasma cutting, the V325 reduces slag build-up by inclusion of a dross inhibitor that sprays oil at the piercing area just before piercing occurs. The machine has a smaller cutting gap for extracting slag and dust during cutting.
The V325 features a double measurement procedure to guarantee plate dimensions are identical on the actual plate part selected for processing. After the plate moves into the machine, active lasers on the gripper trucks measure the lengths while the hydraulic clamp measures the material thickness.
The machine features Voortman’s Instant Cut technology, which reduces cut-to-cut idle movements by optimizing motion paths each time the torch moves from one operation to another, reportedly doubling production capabilities.
A GCE oxy-fuel torch with automatic height control uses standard GCE nozzles, and operators can exchange the torch with a bayonet mount for minimum downtime. The torch features a built-in pressure gauge to indicate real-time cutting pressure for easy adjustments.
The V325 features positioning speeds of 30,000 mm/min, 27,000 mm/min, and 18,000 mm/min in X, Y, and Z respectively. The drill head offers speeds up to 3,500 rpm. The V325 uses SigmaNEST for its nesting software and VACAM for its control software.
