Voortman (Overijssel, Netherlands) has designed the V310 to perform all steps of the production process in a single station, including plasma cutting, oxy fuel cutting, drilling, thread tapping, countersinking, marking, and now milling. The new milling functionality can mill small or large slotted holes where cutting is not an option, and local clamping with auto-calculated milling paths provides additional flexibility in milling size, depth, and shape.
The V310 is equipped with a large drilling spindle, enabling carbide drilling up to 40 mm and thread tapping up to M30 with matching feed rates. The system is designed with a heavy and rigid bridge to lower consumable costs, providing controlled and constant feed rates with no variance in chip thickness and cutting speed.
The V310 can switch between different feed rates while keeping the intermediate feed rate as fast as possible. It utilizes a double measurement system to determine when to switch to optimal feed rates. The clamp determines the first measurement point at which the drill can move toward the material at maximum speed. The contact of the drill with the material determines the second measuring point, where the feed rate is adjusted according to the material and hole dimensions.
To prevent the tapping tool from colliding with the drilling bed during a full tap, additional space is created at the bottom of the hole. The system also uses a tapered tapping tool to extend consumable life. The VACAM software distinguishes between fully drilled holes and blind tapped holes, and when processing blind tapped holes, the system automatically changes the tool. The machine is also suitable for Thread Rolling Taps, allowing tapping of up to M6 without errors.
Voortman’s Xtend Hole technology optimizes the quality of various contours based on the dynamics of the machine by creating high quality small contours such as slot holes and rectangle holes. Voortman’s Xtensive Bevel technology provides instant bevel cutting without pre-cut samples or calibration. The Automatic Tool Path Calculation automatically calculates ramping cycles, required tooling, and tool paths .
The V310 supports marking by milling, marking with plasma or argon, and marking for DOT peen. The main tool changer holds 8 tools, and the system can be upgraded with an additional 19 tools. The system features a working width of 6-10 ft. (1.5-3 m) and a working length of 10-100 ft. (3-30 m), but longer widths and lengths are available upon request. It has a cutting speed of 0-23 fpm, a rapid traverse speed of 65 fpm, and a maximum cutting thickness of 8 in.
