The ENSIS series from Amada (Buena Park, CA) can process thin and thick materials continually without a cutting lens change or manual setup due to an advanced collimation system. It was designed for manufacturers that require high-speed, thick-material cutting and it is suited for both ferrous steels and nonferrous metals.
The collimation system controls the beam diameter and beam configuration, and adjustments occur automatically based on the cut condition selected on the machine’s AMNC 3i control. Each module generates 3 to 4 kW of power, eliminating the need for multiple combining points and reducing overall power consumption. Amada reports up to a 66% reduction in processing time when compared to conventional fiber lasers at the same wattage and a 1-second clean pierce in 1-inch plate.
The system includes an automatic nozzle changer, exchanging nozzles based on the cut condition being used on the current NC program. In less than a minute, the ENSIS cleans the current nozzle and installs and calibrates the new nozzle, reducing machine idling.
The Water Assist Cutting System allows the machine to efficiently process thick material by cooling the material during laser cutting. With reduced heat build up, the laser cutting head has improved cutting on closely-nested parts and does not need to traverse to different areas of the material to let the current cutting area cool.
The ENSIS includes a full enclosure that protects the operator from gantry movement and the shorter wavelengths emitted by the fiber lasers. The ENSIS utilizes helical rack and pinion drive system for both the X and Y axis, while the Z-axis is equipped with a high-precision ball screw. This provides the drive system with improved acceleration and rapid traverse speeds. The helical design also ensures smooth and quiet motion.
The series includes models with powers of 3, 6, 9, or 12 kW. The 3, 6, and 9 kW variants have one, two, or three 3 kW modules respectively. The 12 kW variant consists of three 4 kW modules.
The system is compatible with the AMS 3015 CL, which provides a flexible automation solution that reduces machine downtime from manual material loading. The AMS CL automatically performs material handling operations.
The AMS CL is a modular system that allows fabricators to incrementally expand their automation capabilities. With additional modules, the AMS CL can transition from a single cycle loader to a multi-shelf tower that can support multiple layers. A symmetrical design allows modules to be placed on either the front or rear side of a laser’s shuttle table to accommodate material flow.
