The FormUp 350 machine from AddUp (Cincinnati, OH) is a solution for metal additive manufacturing using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). The system has up to four 500 W lasers, each covering the entire platform surface and equipped with a 3-axis optical chain. This ensures both positioning accuracy and laser beam quality.Â
The system is low maintenance, using a long-life smoke treatment module with a filter replacement module of more than three years and Cross Jet technology, which prevents soiling of the laser protection glass during manufacturing. The machine has optimized production chamber sealing to reduce inerting times, allowing a 15-minute inerting period to reach an oxygen level of 500 ppm. A cooling system for the machine’s Z-axis lowers the temperature of the platform at the end of production, allowing parts to be unloaded more quickly.Â
The FormUp 350 provides an interchangeable coating device, allowing manufacturers to choose the powder spreading system best suited to their production: a scraper system for maximum productivity or a roller system for improved surface finishing. This enables support-free production of cantilevered parts up to 10 nanometers and a reduction in arithmetic roughness regardless of the surface angle. The FormUp 350 takes less than one second to analyze recoating, assessing the powder quality and checking the surface of the powder bed for defects. The system is compatible with all types of metal powders, including the most reactive ones such as titanium and aluminum alloys in fine powders.
